Ida Langley (Howitt) Johnstone

Born May 1, 1888, Amhurstberg, Ontario, Canada

Died August 1970, Detroit, Michigan

Daughter of Tantum Milward and Lola Adelaide (Aylsworth) Howitt.  She was orphaned at age 19 when her parents were both killed while shopping for anniversary clothes when the building next door, Reid’s Crystal Hall, which was undergoing renovations collapsed on July 16, 1907 in London, Ontario.  She lived for a short time with her aunt Mercy, a milliner in London, Ontario and then spent some time in a vaudeville act involving sharp shooting, but quit when a bullet came to close.  She met, and married Wilbur Unseld Johnston, who was a partner for a time with her brother, Richard in Windsor, Ontario.
