Happy Thanksgiving, 2011!

Thanksgiving_2011

This is the first Thanksgiving in over thirty years that we’ve been away from our families. We’re also not anywhere we expected to be at Thanksgiving since we’ve be stuck in Red Bay, Alabama at the Tiffin factory waiting for repairs on our motor home far longer than we expected. But we knew things would be different when we started full-timing in our motor home and we had a nice Thanksgiving together regardless.

We had blue skies and temperatures in the upper 60’s. Earlier this week I made pumpkin-pecan bread and on Thanksgiving day I grilled a turkey breast and sweet potatoes on the grill. Mister Meowto got a half a can of tuna. For dessert there was chocolate ice cream and Punkin Chunkin was on the Science Channel. Who could ask for more? We hope that everybody had a nice Thanksgiving too!

U.S. Space and Rocket Center, Huntsville, Alabama

We took a trip from where we are “camped” in Red Bay, still waiting for repairs on our motor home, to Huntsville to see the U.S. Space and Rocketry Museum last Saturday. Huntsville was one of the technology centers for the space race in the 50’s and 60’s and the museum celebrates this. There was one of Robert Goddard’s first liquid fuel rockets from the 1920’s on display and a comprehensive display of Werner Von Braun’s accomplishments, which included a V2 rocket. Outside, there was a large selection of military rockets from the 40’s and 50’s.

In Red Bay, Alabama for repairs

We’re in Red Bay, Alabama, at the Tiffin Motor Home company factory for repairs to our motor home.  A couple of months ago the front driver’s side leveling jack broke and we’ve been leveling the motor home using a set of 2×8 boards ever since.  I didn’t go to a local RV dealership to have it fixed because they wanted us to come in so they could see what was wrong first.  What was wrong was that the foot or whatever it is called broke off from the screw drive and it was obvious that it needed to be replaced.  They insisted that we come in and have them look at it before they would order the part. Since they were going to charge us for the “consultation” as well as the repairs I decided to have it fixed at the factory.
